Sleep Disorders

Even though how great your health is ,if you are unable to sleep, eventually you will lose health. It is during sleeping time that our bodies manufacture the chemicals that we need in order to live a normal life or make antibodies to fight ailments. It is important then to know in what way your sleep will be affected.

If your sleep is irregular, you will eventually develop insomnia. You sleep today at 8:PM, then tomorrow at 9:PM, then the next day at 11:PM, your brain will have a hard time adjusting and you sleep pattern is affected.

Drinking coffee often will also affect your sleep. Some drink coffee to sleep, while other could not sleep if they drink coffee. It is advised by sleep experts that if you have insomnia, you should not drink coffee after lunch through the afternoon.

Physical inactivity may also help develop sleep problems. It is known that when a person is tired, he can sleep easily. The sleep of the laboring man is sweet compared to those whose only job is to watch tv, read news, sit and eat.

Sometimes when we have problems, we also could not sleep. This is what psychologist called stress. Our night is consumed by the worries we meditate on things that will affect us. Most of these worries do not really happen but it is just natural for people to think about their problems.

The rich who always think how to get richer will have few hours of sleep every night in comparison to the lowly laborers. This is one of the costs of success. Noisy environment will also affect your sleep. Snoring may also affect sleep. If this will not be solved by your partner, this may cause disruptive sleep and will develop to insomnia.

Sleep Apnea is another reason of lack of sleep.

Here are some advise for those who could not get enough sleep everyday.

Lead a simple lifestyle. You can eat 3x/day, you have a house, you can pay your bills and send your children to school, these are enough. Do not think to get rich. It will only lead to troubles.

Work. If you always exert effort every day every time you hit the bed, it is always sleeping time.

Decrease your coffee or Coke or other drinks that contain caffeine. Tea drink also has caffeine.

Do not think too much about your problems. Most of the problems we think do not happen and this is a proven a stats and fact. Better do not get into troubles.

Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits. Shun meat and spicy foods. Barley and wheat are some of the best foods you could find in the supermarket shelves. Grab it.

Develop a regular sleeping hour schedule.. If you do that, every time the sleeping hour comes, your mind and body are prepared to sleep.

The best I combat sleeplessness before was to think and convince myself that I was sleepy. I thought that my eyelids were heavy. That I was falling asleep. I thought that I did not care about my noisy environment because I was very sleepy. First, it was hard . Then, later on, I as mastered the technique, it was getting easier. If your problem is sleep apnea, please consult a doctor.

It is not advised to get sleeping pills to alleviate your insomnia. I tried it but it would not help.

Good night.

The Beautiful Davao

Davao City is one of the best destinations in the Philippines. Selected three times before by Asia Week as one of the most livable cities in Asia, and lately selected as one of the ten future cities of Asia by a British based financial magazine, the city has a lot to offer. Beautiful and exotic Waling-waling orchids and other rare tropical flowers, the famous durian fruits, rambutan, plentiful harvest of sweet Philippine mangoes, pomelo, the “herbalicious” mangoosten, the rare monkey-eating Philippine eagle— ranked second in size to the American bald eagle, the Mount Apo (9692 ft. or 2,954 m) the tallest peak in the Philippines are only some of the city attractions. The place has a mild climate ranging from 20-32 Celsius (68-89 F). The rain comes through out the year even in summer. Located below the wind path, the city has no destructive typhoons. This conducive climate makes the city produce a lot of agricultural harvest in bananas, fruit trees, flowers , vegetables and live stocks.

Annual festivities are held during March and August showcasing the city rich, diverse cultures of mountain tribes, city locals, rich agricultural harvest and many more. These activities are not to be missed if you want to see the real Davao City.

Tips For Your Air Conditioner

You may not know your home air conditioner is consuming so much electricity or giving your children asthma with out you knowing it. Dirty air conditioner could be a source of bacteria that can cause asthma. Or your air conditioner is so big it consume more electricity than what it is needed for your room. To find out if your doubt is wrong or not, please read this article.

•Determine the size of your room. One hp air conditioner could cool a room with the size of 12 sq. meter. Most rooms have three meter distance from floor to ceiling. In hotter climate, you need a bigger hp rating. Buy only the right size of air conditioner for your home and save power.

•The curtain of your windows should be thick in order that the heat transfer is not hasten from outside to inside of your room. This will increase the duration gap from the time your thermostat trips off in the desired setting and the time when it runs again when the sensor detects the room is hot again.

•If you can make your ceiling insulated by the cheap foam insulation, this is better. Your air conditioner running time to cool your room will decrease.

•Install your home air conditioner in the area which is not directly hit by the sun light. The sun light, especially during summer, is intense and could add load to your air conditioner.

•Select the area where your air conditioner will be installed that there will be enough air ventilation. Aircon needs ventilation to transfer the heat taken from inside the room to outside of your home. Poor ventilation will affect your unit performance and will not deliver the correct coldness. The minimum distance from the back of your aircon to any wall is one meter.

•Install your air conditioner about 6 ft. from the floor. The higher you can install it the better but provide provision that when it is taken our for general cleaning, the technician will not need chair or table to take it out. The tendency of the hot air is to rise while cold air has the tendency to descend. When your air conditioner is above your head or near the ceiling, it could take away the hot air directly and suck it in its system hastening the cooling process.

•The best air conditioner for your home is window-type. Window-type air con is easy to use, easy to repair , easy to clean and easy to install.

•The wall mounted, ceiling mounted and the cassette-type air conditioners are difficult to install, repair and clean. Sometimes it is needed to have tarpaulin canvass covered your entire room in order to clean the wall-mounted or ceiling mounted air conditioners. If you do not cover your room, there is a possibility it will be dirtied by the straying water.

•Clean your air con regularly. Usually it is once every three to four months. When after three or four months and you see the front aluminum fins are still clean, do not request for general cleaning. You may have one month more to clean it.

•Only prefer the technician you know when requesting for repairs.

•Request your technician to teach you to remove the front cover of your aircon and clean your filter.

•Buy anti microbial filter. This anti microbial filter will help eliminate the threat of asthma from your small children , which may be triggered by dust from your room.

•Always clean your room regularly. Dust from your room is suctioned by the aircon. Less dust means less dirt going to your air conditioner, which means a longer time for your aircon before general cleaning.

Please follow these tips and get most from your home air conditioner.

Make Your Home Children Safe

Imminent dangers are lurking inside the homes and many parents are unaware of them. How many small children you have read in newspaper or seen in television dead from unsafe home? Not a few. As responsible parents you can avoid these accidents by reading precautions below.

Tips:

1.Place your medicine in a high cabinet and padlock it.

2.Do not place your medicine in your refrigerator.

3.Do not transfer chemicals to other container. A studying student died when he accidentally drank formalin transferred to a drinking glass.

3.Always replace the bottle cap of your medicine very tightly after every use. One child was able to open a liniment containing methyl salicylate camphor and gulp it. He convulsed and brought to a hospital.

4.Do not let your children see you taking medicine. Children learn mostly by imitation. They may follow you and take your medicine when you are not at home.

5.Always secure the placement of your cigarette lighter or match. This is an old warning and yet many houses were burned because of this carelessness.

6.Always close the valve of your LPG gas when leaving home.

7.Never teach your children to operate home air conditioners. Wrongful operation of air conditioner may result to burn out compressor or house fire if circuit breaker will not break.

8.Always unplug television or other home appliances when not in use.

9.Please specify covered electrical outlet when installing yours. You can not discount the creativity of your children and insert metal in it.

11.If possible, do not make a window grill that children could climb. The reason is simple. The may climb it and in the process break their bones.

12.Do not buy a heavy self-folding bed. One toddler played in their upper room with it while her nanny was down stairs. The bed folded so strong and she suffocated and died.

13.Do not allow your children to see violent television program. They may copy the example.

14.Never leave your children alone at home. A mother left his children at their apartment home and bolted the door. When she left, a fire broke out next door and all her children died in the fire.

15.Keep you knives or other pointed tools away from your children.

16.Discourage your small children to play with marbles or seeds of fruits. They may place them in their mouths , ears or nose. This is the same with other small toys. Children below 3 years have the tendency to place everything inside their mouths. Beware.

17.If you are using a big pail to soak you laundry, keep it in a secured place. A child climbed the big pail while her mother had fallen asleep due to tiredness. When she woke up her child was dead in the pail—drown. This is the same with the tub of a washing machine. You should always empty it after every use.

18.If your house is near an empty pit, please secure your children not to go near it. A couple lost their two children for the simple mistake of allowing their small children play near it. The pit was full of water and the two children got drown.

19.If you are living near the bridge, please always secure your gate. Children may wander and fall off the bridge.

20.Do not disregard the warning in the plastic bag of not allowing your children to toy with it. A simple mistake and they will die.

Accident does just happen. It has causes. Accident happens to every one. It may happen in your home if you will not be careful. Avoid needless deaths of your loved ones. Be careful.

Lower Your Blood Pressure

Hi, there. I am myself a high blood pressure victim. I got it from thinking too much about problems and less from eating spicy or fatty foods or lack of exercise. Here is how I got rid of it.

•I spend less time in thinking too much about problems. Most problems we face do not really happen, which means we are having troubles from things that would not happen.

•From time to time I go out. The work in our home is the work that is not finished even how much we will try finishing it. Go out. Stroll in shopping store or malls. People go in malls to relax and most do not know it they are lonely.

•Eat less spicy and fatty foods. Eat more vegetables and fruits.

•Exercise. If you do not love walking, then buy a bike. You can ride your bike three times a week and that is good.

•Love humor. If you are a moody person it is high time to love humor. Find jokes and share them. Or develop relationship with people who has good sense of humor. Not good “sins in humor.”

•Share your life. If you share your life to your friends or neighbors, chances are you will be more active and become a joyous person.

•Avoid controversy. There persons who have controversial personality. If you befriend them, their problems will become yours.

•Do not make a loan you ca not pay. Debt is one of the worst problems you could face and it will give you many sleepless nights.

•Lead a simple lifestyle. A boxer I read was described to lead a life to the fullest while young. He died young. If you lead a simple life, you will have less problems and your sleep will be sweet.

•Avoid making sins. Doing sins or crime, morally or spiritually dissipates our energy. It is good wisdom to avoid them.

•Do not make enemies. Developing friendship is better.

•High blood pressure may recur. It is better to buy an apparatus to check your pressure from time to time.

•Do not sleep late. Sleeping late is known to increase blood pressure. •If you could not avoid taking medicine, then take proven herbal medicine. The one I have proven good is garlic oil.

The process of avoiding high blood pressure can be seen in lifestyle. You must be serious enough to take precaution you will not become a victim of the silent killer.

The Lovely Moon Stone

A lovely gemstone, moon stone belongs to a group of feldspar, a crystalline materials largely made up of silicates of aluminum found in abundance in earth surfaces. It is also known as adularia or selenite. It is called moon stone because inside it you seem to see the light of the moon.

Moon stone has translucent colors ranging from pearly white, pearly blue-tinged reflection ,yellowish white, gray, orange, green, pink ,brown, black, red and champagne tint. These color dances in shimmering effect and has reflection like the phases of the moon.

Places where you can mine moon stones are Australia, USA, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Madagascar, Tanzania, India and Burma.

Many believe that wearing moonstone gives the following benefits:

1.It has the effect to restraint emotion. It helps control emotion by repressing anger or depression and by balancing the heart and mind.

2.It is also believed to ward off dangers while traveling at night and is often worn by sailors for protection in sea travel.

3. Its other benefit is it helps in the cure of diabetes, epilepsy, hyperacidity and sunstroke among others.

For the benefits the moon stone could give, it is advised that doctors, nurses and executive should better wear moonstones. The reason is plain. The moon stone could help relax doctors and nurses in time of job stress. Under pressure top executive could loosen up their nerves with the help of moon stone. Travelers at night and sailors are better to have it also, while there is no love lost if diabetic and epileptic patients will get one.

Davao City Sitting Sales Ladies

Before sales ladies sit down when their supervisor is not around but they are afraid to be caught. Now–Davao City sales ladies can sit when they feel tired of standing. They would not be afraid. The story has changed. It is their supervisor who will be afraid. Thanks to Councilor Edgar Ibuyan who has authored this gentle law and is approved now by the City Council. Violating employers will be fined from P1,000. to P5,000. or imprisonment up to six months. This law will help pregnant women and those that have cardio vascular problems. The fearsome varicose veins, looking like a distended and twisted vine in the legs, may be avoided. Davao City needs councilors like Ibuyan who could think what are good for their constituents. This is a pioneering law in the country. Others will copy Councilor Ibuyan’s authored law. Thanks Councilor Ibuyan. The city needs more humane laws like this one.

The Case of the Sumilao Farmers

The Case of the Sumilao Farmers

The Sumilao farmers are from Bukidnon, a province in central Mindanao, Philippines. They have a case against the San Miguel Foods, Inc. (SMFI) to reclaim back their ancestral land. The case is simply a case between the poor and the rich and between the poor and the government. The rich are the Quisumbings and the San Miguel Foods, Inc.(SMFI) a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation, a giant food conglomerate. The Philippine government in this instance is represented by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), the Supreme Court, the Executive Secretary, directly under the Office of the President and the President. The poor are the Higaonons, popularly known as the Sumilao farmers. We will retrace back the travails of the Sumilao farmers to better understand the injustices they have suffered.

The Tragic Story of Mariannet Amper

The Tragic Story of Mariannet Amper Mariannet Amper was a tragic story of poverty. She was the 12-year old girl who hanged herself last November 2007. In her bed was found a letter written for tv program “Wish Ko Lang” ( My Only Wish). In it she wished of having a bag, a bicycle and good paying jobs for her parents. She lived in a house with no electricity and running water. She had not gone to school for nearly three months and it might be the bicycle she would use to go to school for lack of fare. As we always do in crisis we only help when there is already a problem. After her death all kind of support was given to her family ranging from financial to moral support. Even the two top local officials accused each other of not using his funds to help alleviate the marginalized poor. Instead of uniting they resort to finger pointing. Later on medical autopsy showed she was raped. But it could not be discounted the possibility the poverty drove her to end her life, which could have been complicated further by the possible sexual abuse.
