Davao City is one of the best destinations in the Philippines. Selected three times before by Asia Week as one of the most livable cities in Asia, and lately selected as one of the ten future cities of Asia by a British based financial magazine, the city has a lot to offer. Beautiful and exotic Waling-waling orchids and other rare tropical flowers, the famous durian fruits, rambutan, plentiful harvest of sweet Philippine mangoes, pomelo, the “herbalicious” mangoosten, the rare monkey-eating Philippine eagle— ranked second in size to the American bald eagle, the Mount Apo (9692 ft. or 2,954 m) the tallest peak in the Philippines are only some of the city attractions. The city also supplies chicken, pork and vegetables to Manila supermarkets.The place has a mild climate ranging from 20-32 Celsius (68-89 F). The rain comes through out the year even in summer. Located below the wind path, the city has no destructive typhoons. This conducive climate makes the city produce a lot of agricultural harvest in bananas, fruit trees, flowers , vegetables and live stocks.
Annual festivities are held during March and August showcasing the city rich, diverse cultures of mountain tribes, city locals, rich agricultural harvest and many more. These activities are not to be missed if you want to see the real Davao City.
Good places to visit are the Philippine National Eagle Center and Japanese Museum in Calinan, the Pearl Farm Resort in Samal, (good for warm beaches and diving site) the Davao Crocodile Park (also offer the Wild Water Adventure )Loleng’s Mountain Spring Resort, Eden Nature Park,Puentespina Orchids, the Buddhist Temple in Cabaguio and Mount Apo.
Good restaurants are Shanghai along Uyanguren St., Sarong Bangi along Torres St., the small but nice Golden Brown Chicken along Duterte Street in the heart of the city, Sunburst Fried Chicken along Tionko Ave. and near the Philippine National Bank.
Only 1.5 hours air travel from Manila, about four airlines travel to the city daily namely: Philippine Air Lines, Cebu Pacific Air, Air Philippines and Asian Spirit and the latest Pacific Pearl Airways ( the website is not functional). Travel fare are cheaper if you purchase it one month ahead but is higher if purchase one or two days before flight. For 100 dollars you can already have a two-way trip ticket from Manila to Davao City.
